Fortuna car was burglarized Sunday, police report

Fortuna car was burglarized Sunday, police report

Police are looking for information about the person or persons believed to have broken into the car wash pay station at Shelton’s Auto Lube in Fortuna and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

A news release issued by the Fortuna Police Department stated officers were called to the business around 7:20 p.m. Sunday. It is believed the theft occurred just prior to its discovery, the release stated.

Police also believe the persons involved were familiar with the equipment and were “able to break into the pay station, quickly gaining access to its safe and stealing the currency inside.”

Police estimated several hundred dollars — in quarters — were taken.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to phone the Fortuna Police Department at 707-725-7550, or e-mail FPD Detective Matt Eberhardt at meberhardt@ci.fortuna.ca.us.

Additionally, the release urged business owners “to take note should someone attempt to purchase items using a large amount of quarters.”
